First steps in cooking

At 35 years old, the Brazilian chef has already more than fifteen
years of experience in cooking. First as an observer, then as a
cook, he has worked in some of the best hotels in São Paulo.
In addition, he has travelled abroad in order to further his skills, in
French (Hyatt, Carlton) and Spanish (Intercontinental) luxury
hotels, working alongside famous chefs (Taillevent, George
Blanc).

Training for the Bocuse d’Or

To prepare for the competition in January, Marcelo Pinheiro studied the previous
editions in detail, before rehearsing his own creations with previous winners.
A few months ahead of the contest, he installed, in his own kitchen a
cubicle similar to that he will be using in the finals.

Between us…

The candidate speaks
Portuguese, French, and
a little Spanish and
English.
What does his mother
think of his cooking:
“Unfortunately, she is no
longer with us to tell me,
but she was a great
admirer of my work,
especially when I prepared
dishes especially for
her, at the house.”
If he were a dish, he
would be…
“escalopes au gratin with
mushrooms, because it is
one of my favourite dishes.”

Outside the kitchen

When he’s not working, the Brazilian candidate likes to be with his family, his
wife and three daughters, to organise barbecues with friends. He also enjoys
travelling.
